Crops have evolved to develop built-in coping mechanisms to help them self-manage the effects of abiotic stress. But with the environmental changes we are seeing, it is critical for agronomists to understand how they can utilise, activate, or reinforce these coping mechanisms during the agronomic cycle. One of the ways to do this is to prepare or \u201cprime\u201d crops to prevent the negative effects of combined abiotic stresses before they occur, using the Primactive Effect approach, which involves using a specific subset of biostimulants that have this mode of action.<\/h3>\n

What are biostimulants?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Biostimulants are materials which contain substances and \/ or microorganisms whose function, when applied to plants or the rhizosphere, is to stimulate natural processes to enhance or benefit nutrient uptake, nutrient efficiency, tolerance to\u00a0<\/span>abiotic stress<\/span><\/i>, and crop quality, independent of its nutrient content.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
